To do list

I took one of those personality type questionnaires some years ago and I came out as a ‘completer finisher’. That means I like to get jobs done.

It’s true! For me, there is nothing quite like ticking jobs off a list! This is a good thing, as I know that when I start something I will keep going until it’s completed.

In the Old Testament, the story is told have how God delivered Israel from Egypt, under the leadership of Moses. After 40 years, Moses died, and the leadership baton was passed to a man called Joshua.

Joshua led the Israelites into the land God had for them, and defeated many opposing kings, claiming much of the land for them to settle in. However, after a long period of time, the job was still not done…

When Joshua had grown old, the LORD said to him, “You are now very old, and there are still very large areas of land to be taken over.”
— Joshua 13:1 The NIV Bible

Joshua and the Israelites had not done all that God asked of them. They had settled. They had stopped advancing. God’s provocation rallied them once more to complete the task.

I think this story can speak to us today. We can start something with vision, passion and energy. After some time, we can lose focus, get distracted or even forget what we were doing.

Take a moment to consider are there things that God has called you to do? Ask yourself, ‘am I still doing it?’ If the answer is ‘yes’, then fantastic, well done! If the answer is ‘no’, then why not ask yourself ‘what has happened?’

If you know that ‘land still needs to be taken’, then let me encourage you, ask God to help you get back on track with renewed vision, passion and energy.

God bless
