The earth is the Lord’s
As we continue to navigate our way through lock down the UK Government has introduced some cautious easing. I have noticed a few more people when I have been out for my exercise. It’s great seeing people re-connecting (from a safe 2 metres). Life still is hard for many, but there has been something positive that is taking place.
I have read reports that less traffic, the closure of factories and airports has resulted in a dramatic reduction in smog pollution. This has been witnessed in capitals such as New Delhi, India and New York, US. In the river streets of Venice octopus have been seen.
As both carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide levels have fallen our planet is breathing again. This is good news, and reminds me of the opening words of Psalm 24...
One way I have tried to stay focused during these last eight weeks is to keep a sense of the wider perspective. The Bible tells us that this beautiful planet belongs to God because He made it! Remembering this is part of that ‘big picture’ and has helped me to see beyond my personal needs, frustrations and concerns.
I fully appreciate that there is still a lot of anxiety around, and along with others are helping and praying for many. More than ever I am aware that we are a ‘global village’. Technology has been a lifeline in keeping us connected.
Earth is our home. We all share this planet. It belongs to God and right now it is breathing and healing.
