Something new

This week I have been reading Jeremiah. God used this Old Testament prophet at a time when Judah was overthrown by foreign invaders from Babylon. In the midst of this conquering defeat, God spoke words of hope...

‘The days are coming,’ declares the Lord, ‘when I will make a new covenant with the people of Israel and with the people of Judah. ‘This is the covenant that I will make with the people of Israel after that time,’ declares the Lord. ‘I will put my law in their minds and write it on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people. No longer will they teach their neighbour, or say to one another, “Know the Lord,” because they will all know me, from the least of them to the greatest,’ declares the Lord.
— Jeremiah 31:31,33, 34 The NIV Bible

Judah had only known of God’s laws written on stone (10 Commandments) and scrolls (The Torah) and taught by their leaders. Jeremiah was prophesying about something quite revolutionary, as this ‘new’ covenant was to be internal and for everyone! There was a promise of a personal relationship with God too! The amazing thing is, this has all come true - and not just for Jews. You can have a relationship with God, and this ‘new’ covenant can be written on your heart...amazing! Today, open yourself to God afresh, love the relationship and live according to His ways...
