Functioning body...

This week I was reading Ephesians 4 about unity in the body and was struck by verse 16:

He makes the whole body fit together perfectly. As each part does its own special work it helps the other parts grow, so that the whole body is healthy and growing and full of love.
— NLT
From him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work.
— NIV

Some of you may know that I enjoy running and last week succumbed to an injury, I’m not 100% sure what it is but it hurts, but more interesting is that over the last week most of my body has started to hurt – not just my hip, but my shoulders and legs and overall feel more tired that if I was doing my usual running routine! The (injured) not properly functioning ligament has meant that I am walking and holding myself up and moving in a very different and out of balance position. What an interesting analogy comparing that to the ‘body’ of Christ when not functioning properly – how differently do ‘we’ as different parts the body function and progress when one part is not functioning properly as God intended us to with our varying gifts? Are you and I functioning in the body as we were designed? I’m quite sure the rest of my body is looking forward to the poorly functioning part to function properly. A little something for us to ponder on.
