The Double Act

This week I have been reading Exodus. The title of the book simple means ‘exit’ and it’s the incredible story of how God rescued the Israelites from Egypt. The book is full of drama, tension and action. The main character in this epic adventure is Moses and in Ch 3 he encounters God...

The Lord said, ‘I have indeed seen the misery of my people in Egypt. I have heard them crying out because of their slave drivers, and I am concerned about their suffering. So I have come down to rescue them from the hand of the Egyptians and to bring them up out of that land into a good and spacious land... So now, go. I am sending you to Pharaoh to bring my people the Israelites out of Egypt.’
— Exodus 3:7,8,10 The NIV Bible

Here we read of God’s love, compassion and mercy for His people. He decided to act and to save them and lead them to a new ‘free’ place. This was all very wonderful and then God said to Moses...I want you to go and do it! In other words, God wanted to fulfil His plans by working through a human. The rest of this chapter records a conversation where Moses tried to wriggle out of it, but in the end he agreed to help. This is so amazing! The God of the universe chose to ‘partner’ with a human to bring about His purposes! Guess what? The same is true today! How would you like to be part of the greatest double act the world has ever seen..?
