Do Gooders

This week did not start well. The UK Government introduced some new social distance guidance stating: ‘When seeing friends and family you do not live with you should meet in groups of 6 or less’. As we head into autumn this was not good news as fears of a ‘second wave’ are rumoured too.

Once again, I have had to turn to God for strength, encouragement, hope and to stay focused on Him.

God is so faithful! I came across this little gem whilst reading the Paul’s letter in the New Testament to the Christians in Galatia (modern day Turkey)...

Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people...
— Galatians 6:9-10 The NIV Bible

To be honest there have been days over these last five months where I have just been weary! It took a lot of energy to do church, family and life in different ways!

But here, the author Paul’s encouragement is not to weary in doing good to other people. In doing this, it gets our eyes of ourselves and onto helping and supporting others. When we ‘do good’ we then get that warm glow or buzz knowing that we have blessed or helped another human being!

Covid-19 has changed everything. However, we still have a choice, are we going to do good to others? These verses tell us that when the opportunity arises, we should always do good.

So, let’s be on the lookout for those occasions, and when they pop up, let’s be ‘do gooders’...
