Coronavirus

It’s been quite a week! The UK Government has issued instructions to stop the spread of the coronavirus. This has meant the cancelling of gigs, concerts, theatre productions, sporting events and the cinema, to name but a few.

We, like 1000’s of churches, have taken the decision to suspend our Sunday gatherings. We are seeking ways to keep those vital connections as well as to care for the most vulnerable in our church and community.

I have not seen anything like this in my lifetime! It seems to bring out the best and worst in people. It’s heart warming to see so many looking to support and provide for those who are vulnerable, with creative Facebook groups and ‘true’ neighbourhood care.

On the other hand, it’s saddening to see people fighting over and stockpiling pasta, beans and toilet paper in crazy panic buying!

The Government, the Chief Medical Officer and Scientific Adviser having been briefing the nation. Church leaders up and down the country are making statements. It feels like everyone has something to say on this unprecedented situation we all face. So, how about letting God speak from the Bible? Let me share with you what I have found comfort and strength in, from Psalm 46:

God, you’re such a safe and powerful place to find refuge!
You’re a proven help in time of trouble,
more than enough and always available whenever I need you.
So we will never fear even if every structure of support were to crumble away.
We will not fear even when the earth quakes and shakes,
moving mountains and casting them into the sea.
For the raging roar of stormy winds and crashing waves
cannot erode our faith in you.
— Psalm 46:1-3 The Passion Bible

Stay safe.

God bless you!
