The Tipping Point
Mad World, Shout and Everybody want’s to Rule the World are probably the most well-known songs of the 80’s band Tears for Fears. An English duo formed in Bath, England, in 1981 by Roland Orzabal and Curt Smith.
They had massive worldwide success following their 1985 album release ‘Songs from the Big Chair’, which happens to be one of my personal favourite albums of all time!
Sadly, only a few years after that, Orzabal and Smith had an acrimonious falling out and parted company in 1991. According to Wikipedia: ‘the split was blamed on Orzabal's perfectionist approach to production and delays caused by Smith's jet setting lifestyle and desire to slow down the pace of their work.’
They did not speak for nine years. After that they occasionally reconnected to record and even toured irregularly.
But then in the autumn of 2021 the band announced they were working on a new album called ‘The Tipping Point’ which was released on 25 February 2022... and I love it! They will be touring again this summer, and I've got tickets to seem them too!
Whilst enjoying the album and listening to current promotional interviews I can't help but think about the break down in their relationship and the many years of being apart.
In a New Testament letter written to a church the Apostle Paul dealt with this issue saying...
Forgiveness is not just important, but I would say essential for life! Without it we can become trapped in our own thoughts and feelings, which can lead to all sorts of things such as anger, bitterness and hatred.
Let me encourage you to be somebody who forgives quickly. In my experience, releasing any grievance is good for my own well-being. The broken relationship may take time to heal, but like a scar over time the pain and hurt does go.
I am thrilled with the new Tears for Fears album, excited about seeing them in concert, but above all that, I am delighted that Orzabal and Smith have made peace with one another and renewed their relationship.
God bless
