Stability

‘I’m a celebrity get me out of here!’ is back! This is the shows 22nd series and has been hosted by the popular Geordie double act, Ant & Dec since 2002.

There is something strangely addictive watching this crop of ‘celebrities’ embrace bushtucker trials, encountering creepy crawlies and eating bits of animals that should never be consumed!

This show has been part of our lives for 20 years. It’s embedded into our culture, and for me it is a definite ‘guilty pleasure’.

There are other, perhaps more sophisticated things, that are part of life and have been around for a long time. I love trips to London, embracing its vibrancy. I also enjoy seeing certain buildings that have been there decades.

The Houses of Parliament, St. Paul’s Cathedral and The Royal Albert Hall are just a few magnificent structures that have stood a long time, and for me, bring a sense of history and stability.

Thinking about stability, near the end of the New Testament book Hebrews, the author wrote…

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.
— Hebrews 13:8 The NIV Bible

This short sentence really packs a punch – and that ‘hit’ me when I read it recently. I started to think about the characteristics and qualities of Jesus. We can read the stories about Him and see that he was loving, compassionate, truthful, righteous, wise, etc…

Here’s the thing: this is not just historical. It’s also for now and future proof! In other words, Jesus ‘was’ loving (past). He ‘is’ loving (present) and will ‘always’ be loving (future)! And that goes for all his other attributes too.

Our world today is very unstable, even volatile. We are facing a cost-of-living crisis with rising fuel bills along with another new Prime Minister. The war in Ukraine has displaced thousands and the ripples of Russia’s actions reach far and wide.

Good news! There is one thing, or should I say one person, who was, is, and will always be totally reliable, unchanging and stable… Jesus Christ. Let me encourage you to check Him out, by reading the Bible and calling out to Him in prayer.

God bless
