Snow Day

As we continue this long lockdown journey, I love hearing and seeing people making the most of opportunities that appear. An example of that was the ‘snow day’ we had in our area last Sunday.

What a treat to wake up and see everywhere covered in that magical white stuff! Many people wrapped up and ventured out to enjoy snowball fights, building snowmen and sledging. Others just walked and marvelled at the beauty of this winter wonderland.

My daughter and I walked to our church building where we were hosting the live stream. We were only 5 minutes along the path that I tripped on a paving slab and ended up on my face – ouch!

The snow has all gone now. This week I read in the Bible this little verse in the book of Proverbs...

Whenever you are able, do good to people who need help.
— Proverbs 3:27 The NCV Bible

This short proverb is a little gem. Even though our movements are restricted and life is not going as any of us would want, opportunities do pop up. And it’s what we do when they appear that is important!

When Sunday’s ‘snow day’ arrived, many went out and enjoyed it. Let me encourage you to be mindful of things that pop up. It could be that you think of a person or a situation. When that happens, if you can, do something about it.

We all need help at the moment! Big challenges face us. There are many needs: some practical but I believe much more around our emotional wellbeing. So there are plenty of opportunities to ‘do good’ to others.

Most of us have access to a phone or the internet so we can reach out and connect. If not ho about consider sending someone an old-fashioned letter or card or sending a little gift. If you can, be creative and do something.

If you can’t do any of these things, there is one vital thing you can do from home – pray! Bring people before God in prayer, asking God to help and bless them!

Whenever you are able, do good to people who need help.
