Rescued

This week I have been reading Psalm 40. King David wrote this at a time when God rescued out of a difficult or hopeless situation. As a poet, David put it like this...

I waited patiently for the Lord. He turned to me and heard my cry.
He lifted me out of the pit of destruction, out of the sticky mud.
He stood me on a rock and made my feet steady.
He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God.
Many people will see this and worship him.
Then they will trust the Lord.
— Psalm 40:1-3 The NCV Bible

The language paints a wonderful picture of somebody being stuck in something that’s dragging them down, but then being pulled out onto solid ground. Now free, the tune changes from despair to worship, full of gratitude to God. Then, as others see this great deliverance, they too turn towards God! It’s a wonderful concise metaphor of salvation! You may be stuck in a situation, but have patience, call on God and wait for Him to act. Alternatively, God may have already pulled you out of a mess, so turn to Him, thank and praise Him for all he is done! Don’t be shy in telling others what God has done as your story is powerful demonstration of God at work here and now!
