Lent

Today is the beginning of Lent. It’s the six week period leading up to Easter. Many Christians see it as a time of solemn observance and preparation for the celebration of the death and resurrection of Jesus at Easter. It is a traditional time for fasting or giving something up or abstinence. So what things should you give up this Lent: chocolate, alcohol, social media? The Bible has something to say about this too...

Therefore each of you must put off falsehood and speak truthfully to your neighbour. Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice.
— Ephesians 4:24, 29, 31 The NIV Bible
Therefore, rid yourselves of all malice and all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and slander of every kind.
— 1 Peter 2:1 The NIV Bible

This Lent why don’t you take a sombre look at yourself and ask God to highlight any areas that He wants you to ‘give up’? May these next six weeks be a spiritual detox, as we heads towards Easter!
