Just looking?

From our kitchen window I can see up and down our street. It’s a Cul-de-sac so there is not a lot of traffic apart from residents coming and going and the occasional deliveries from online retailers. Things get exciting on Wednesdays as that the wheelie bin collection day!

The book of Exodus in the Bible is the epic story of how God brought His people (Israel) out from Egypt where they were slaves. It also tells of how God met with their leader Moses in a place called ‘the tent of meeting’. It was a very dramatic sight as God turned up in a cloud!

As Moses went into the tent, the pillar of cloud would come down and stay at the entrance, while the Lord spoke with Moses. Whenever the people saw the pillar of cloud standing at the entrance to the tent, they all stood and worshipped, each at the entrance to their tent.
— Exodus 33:9-10 The NIV Bible

All the people saw God arrive and watched Moses go into the tent for the meeting. The wording is very specific: the people worshipped ‘at the entrance to their tents’. It’s a bit like me standing at my kitchen window watching the cars go by!

It’s observational, disconnected and even remote. When Jesus came, things changed! It’s like he knocked on my front door and said would I like to come meet His Father? I had the choice to open the door and go with Jesus, into my own relationship with God.

This is interactive, connected and personal. I can know God and share life with him, and so can you! Don’t just look out of your window or stand in your doorway and just watch, step out as Jesus has made a way for you to know God!

God bless you!
