I recently read in the Bible about the Kings of Israel in 1 Chronicles. Most of this book is about King David and his many achievements. David had established his rule from the city of Jerusalem and had built a royal palace. He longed to build a temple for God, but had been denied that by God. As he neared the end of his life he made a plan...

David said, “My son Solomon is young and inexperienced, and the house to be built for the LORD should be of great magnificence and fame and splendour in the sight of all the nations. Therefore I will make preparations for it.” So David made extensive preparations before his death.
— 1 Chronicles 22:5 The NIV Bible

Before his death, David planned this magnificent temple, and brought together many of the materials used for its construction. Solomon did build the temple and it was completed long after David’s death. David had a big vision and he invested his time, energy and resources in it and his son before he died. He never saw the completed temple! There is a lesson to be learnt from David. As we get older are we seeing beyond the day to day? What is our big vision, and who should we invest time, energy and resources in now? I’m very grateful to wonderful Godly people who have invested in me over the years. Now, as I’m getting older I’m seeking to think big and invest in younger people too...
