Discovery

One of the positive things I have loved seeing since lock down started at the end of March is the variety of ways people have been creative. This has included such things as baking, sewing, singing, dancing, cycling, quizzes, dramas and setting challenges.

For some they have discovered new things, like teaching yourself guitar or knitting. For others it has been rediscovering something from the past, such as a favourite puzzle, recipe, book or game.

There was a time recorded in the Old Testament part of the Bible, when God’s people neglected to follow and serve Him. They had not kept his laws and had given themselves to foreign gods and practices. Around 622BC something was discovered that he be lost for many years...

Hilkiah the high priest said to Shaphan the secretary, ‘I have found the Book of the Law in the temple of the Lord.’ He gave it to Shaphan, who read it. Then Shaphan the secretary informed the king, ‘Hilkiah the priest has given me a book.’ And Shaphan read from it in the presence of the king.
— 2 Kings 22:8 & 10 The NIV Bible

This Book of the Law was God’s instructions for Israel given to Moses hundreds of years before. Tragically it had been lost and consequently God’s people had not followed it.

When it was read before the king he responded positively and immediately acted to bring the nation back to God’s ways.

In this lock down you may have started something new, found new skills or rediscovered a favourite pastime, which is great!

Maybe you are a Christian but have lapsed in your relationship with God? I believe now is the time to rediscover Jesus and the call of God on your life.

You may not have a faith, but through this time have been asking big questions about life. May I encourage you to look to Jesus. Discover His love for you, the power of is freeing forgiveness, dealing decisively with the past and the promise of great future!
